Coinciding with the Byobu Folding Screen Exhibition, artist Alejandro Bertolo will discuss the history and art of the Japanese screen, including:

– The origins of screen paintings in Japan; transition from sacred to functional art
– Types of Byobu
– Fusuma and Byobu, the managing of space in the Japanese interiors
– Themes and subjects: The influence of the aesthetics of tea: “sabi” and “wabi”
